Detailed 5-Day Rwanda Gorillas & Akagera Wildlife Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park
Pick up from the airport by your safari guide, drive to Kigali city for a city tour, and afterward, continue to Akagera National Park where you will embark on a late afternoon game drive to get an introduction to the wildlife of the Savannah park.
You can also opt for a night game drive.
Day 2: Game Drive and Boat Trip
On day 2 of your safari, you will explore Akagera National Park on game drives around the park and on a boat ride on Lake Ihema.
Look out for lions, zebras, hyenas, giraffes, elephants, leopards, rhinos, buffalos, hippos, waterbucks, oribis, crocodiles, and hundreds of different bird species.
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park
You will transfer to the most visited and most popular national park in Rwanda, Volcanoes National Park.
Exit with one last game drive and start your journey to North Rwanda via Kigali city; you will have lunch en-route.
Later in the day, you will arrive at your lodge in Volcanoes, check-in, and spend the rest of the day relaxing and enjoying the ambiance of the facility.
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking & Cultural Tour
Gorilla trekking takes place early in the morning; therefore, you will be up early, have breakfast, and your safari guide will drive you to the park head office for a briefing, and then you follow your ranger guide into Volcanoes National Park to trek the mountain gorillas.
Spend an hour with the gorilla family once you have tracked it down.
After the experience, return to your lodge for lunch and later in the day, visit the Gorilla Guardians village for a guided cultural tour.
Day 5: End of Safari
We come to the end of your safari to Akagera National Park and Volcanoes National Park.
You will return to Kigali after your breakfast.
Your safari guide will take you to the airport to catch your flight back home.
