Detailed 6-Day Explore Bwindi Gorillas & Akagera Safari Tour Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Pick Up from the Airport
Your safari driver guide will pick you up from Kigali International Airport on arrival and drive you to Kigali city for check-in at a hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 2: Transfer to Akagera National Park
After your breakfast, you will transfer to Akagera National Park on a 3-hour scenic drive.
A short game drive on arrival as you drive to your safari lodge arriving in time for lunch. After lunch, you will go for a boat trip on Lake Ihema, the largest lake in Akagera National Park.
Expect to see different aquatic bird species, crocodiles, and hippos submerged, and other animals grazing on the lake shores.
Return to your safari lodge for the night. Optional 3-hour night game drive.
Day 3: Game Drive and Transfer to Kigali
Early morning game drive in the Northern part of Akagera National Park with packed food for a picnic lunch at a safe designated spot in the park.
You will encounter elephants, buffalos, baboons, giraffes, zebras, lions, leopards, jackals, hyenas, impalas, elands among other animals.
Stop for your picnic lunch in the wild, after which you will transfer back to Kigali city for the night.
Day 4: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Uganda
Have your morning breakfast and then take on a short Kigali city tour to the Inema art center and the Kigali genocide memorial.
After, your safari guide will take you on a scenic road trip across the Rwanda-Uganda border to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Arriving in the late afternoon, enjoy a delicious late lunch and have the rest of the day to yourself, checking out the facilities’ amenities or just relaxing back in your room.
Day 5: Gorilla Trekking in Rwanda
Today you go for the momentous, once-in-a-lifetime gorilla trekking experience in the impenetrable forest of Bwindi.
Start with a briefing at the park headquarters and then be guided into the forest to search for the assigned gorilla family.
Spend a full hour with the gorillas observing them, taking pictures, and getting to know more about them from your guide.
The activity can last for 2-7 hours. Return to your safari lodge for lunch and a relaxed evening or visit the nearby Batwa community.
Day 6: Return to Kigali – End of Safari
After your breakfast, you will drive back to Rwanda on a scenic road trip, stopping in Kigali city for lunch and some gift or souvenir shopping and then continue to the airport to catch your flight.
