Requirements for Filming

Requirements for filming in Akagera National Park:

  • Rwanda Filming Permit: Anyone wishing to film in Akagera needs to get permission by applying for a Rwanda Film Permit (Media accreditation). You are required to fill out the authorization form and then send it to the Ministry of Sports and Culture and wait for a response. A 1-month permit costs $100, and a 3-6 months permit costs $300.
  • Press Accreditation: This grants you permission to carry out journalism in Rwanda. To be accredited, you need to fill in an application too.
  • A letter requesting accreditation
  • Your colored passport photos
  • A clear copy of your passport
  • A clear copy of your visa if you are required a visa to visit Rwanda
  • A copy of your media/press card
  • A comprehensive list of your filming kits and equipment to be used during filming in Akagera National Park. The cost of Press accreditation will vary depending on the duration of your filming in Rwanda, that is anywhere from $100 to $300.

Best time to visit Akagera National Park for Filming – Filming in Akagera can be done any time of the year depending on what you want to film.

But the best time would be during the dry months of June through to September when the vegetation is sparse and thin, providing good visibility of the animals in the park.
