Mirama Hills Border – Your Gateway Between Uganda and Rwanda

Also known as the Kagitumba Border, the Mirama Hills Border, which gets its name from the nearby hills “Mirama,” stands at an elevation of 1,560 meters above sea level, overlooking the Muvumba River.

It is a border connecting Rwanda to Uganda, almost near the Tanzanian border, and is comfortably located in the Ntungamo District in the Ankole sub-region on Uganda’s side. The nearest town you can spot after crossing the border is Katigumba.

Mirama Hills Border - Your Gateway Between Uganda and Rwanda

Mirama Hills Border is an easier route to access compared to other routes because it is shorter and easier to traverse. The simplicity continues since you can use road transport from Kampala, the capital city of Uganda, to Ntungamo District, which is only a 30-minute drive away from the border. To reach Rwanda from Kampala through the Mirama Hills Border, you will only cover 350 kilometers.

Ensure you have the necessary documents while crossing the border, such as a visitor’s pass valid for six months for visitors coming from Uganda, Tanzania, and Kenya (East African countries). There are no visa fees for this pass, and you can even renew it at any entry point.

Passport holders from countries like the USA, the United Kingdom, Israel, Germany, New Zealand, Australia, and Sweden can receive their visas upon arrival in the country, costing only from $50.00 and valid for 30 days.

When applying for a visa, you will need a passport valid for six months prior to the day of travel, a completed visa application form (either typed or filled out in the applicant’s handwriting), two passport-sized photographs with ears visible, and other necessary documents.

The border is also near national parks like Queen Elizabeth National Park and Lake Mburo National Park. If you are not short on time, take some time to tour around and enjoy activities such as boat safaris on Lake Mburo or the Kazinga Channel in Queen Elizabeth National Park.

The Mirama Hills Border should always be your gateway to either Uganda or Rwanda.
