Muyumbu campsite is located in the South of Akagera National Park, situated the closest to the park’s main entrance gate, Kiyonza gate. The campsite is positioned on a ridge overlooking the lakes, Ihema and Shakani, extending all the way to Tanzania.

Muyumbu campsite is situated a few kilometers from Kiyonza gate in the South, which is the main entrance gate to Akagera National Park.
Just like the other campsites in Akagera National Park, basic facilities like pit toilets, bathrooms, and firewood for your campfire are readily available to the campers.
Campers are advised to carry their own camping supplies and equipment, namely: food and cooking items, sleeping bags, enough drinking water, appropriate clothing, personal toiletries, among other camping essentials.
Campers can hire camping tents from the reception of Akagera National Park, from individual hire to group tents.

Muyumbu campsite is a safe camping ground for visitors to Akagera National Park, as it is surrounded by an electric fence ensuring the safety of the overnight stay campers.

There are other campsites in Akagera National Park, including Lake Shakani Campsite (South), Mihindi camp and café, and Mutumba campsite (North).
The best time to be out camping at Muyumbu campsite is during the dry season from June to September and December to February.
During this time, game viewing is excellent. Nonetheless, you can visit Akagera and go camping anytime of the year, but probably avoiding the months of April and May as these two months receive a lot of rain.
