Lake Murambi is one of the popular tourist destinations in eastern Rwanda, surrounded by Lake Muhazi in the northwest and Lake Mugesera in the southwest.
Like Birengero, Murambi is also found in Akagera National Park, one of the renowned parks in Rwanda. It is a slow-standing body of water that occupies an inland basin.
Once around Lake Murambi, there are lodges where you can rest, including Akagera Ihema Lodge, well-built with a garden and terrace.
Mantis Akagera Game Lodge features an outdoor swimming pool, fitness center, and garden.
Akagera Transit Lodge is a deluxe option with mountain views and a restaurant, accompanied by free Wi-Fi. Akagera Guide’s House offers rooms with an inner courtyard view.
The easiest means of transport to reach the park is by road, with the journey starting from Kigali to Akagera National Park. From there, you can rest at your booked accommodation before heading to Lake Murambi, probably the following day.
Safari cars are used to reach the locality, and on the way, you will spot birds, herbivores, and carnivores.
At Lake Murambi, you can take part in fishing or enjoy the soft soil of Africa, where you can relax with your family for a picnic.
Ensure you pack enough drinking water bottles, as during the dry season, your body needs more hydration. Pack fruits and some juice as well to add a refreshing touch to your safari.
The name Murambi has an important history. A memorial was built to honor those who lost their lives during the genocide between the Tutsi and the Hutu. The memorial was created on 21st April 1995, and many Tutsi sought refuge in Murambi, leading to developments such as schools.
Today, this site contains the remains of approximately 50,000 victims who were killed at the technical school, with only 34 survivors.
Murambi should be your next stopover for an enjoyable safari in Rwanda.
