Walk the Line – Explore Akagera’s Electric Fence for Conservation Insights

Akagera Park’s electric fence was launched in 2013 and erected as a conservation initiative to put an end to human-wildlife conflicts and poaching of wildlife. It keeps the animals of Akagera National Park from crossing over to the neighboring local communities, which could pose a threat to the lives of the locals, their livestock, and the destruction of their gardens.

The fence also keeps out intruders from entering the national park, unauthorized, which has helped in fighting poaching of wild animals in Akagera.

Park rangers conduct regular patrols along the electric line checking for breaches and damages that need to be fixed.

Walking the line in Akagera National Park is an informative wildlife experience in the Savannah park that lasts about 2 hours, walking 120 km in the shoes of the Akagera electric fence attendants.

Explore the outskirts of the park on foot viewing the different animal and bird life and stunning landscapes of Akagera.
