This is the main entrance and the only gate of entry to Akagera National Park.
It is situated at the southern end of the park near the park’s headquarters in Kayonza district.
The gate is approximately a 2-3-hour drive from Kigali city, the capital of Rwanda.
All visitors to the park use this gate for entry. The South gate can also be used for exit, especially by the visitors staying in the lodges located in the Southern part of Akagera National Park.
The park’s gate is open from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm. Upon entry, you are required to register your vehicle and make your entry payments.
At the time of exiting the park, you must present a receipt as proof of payment.
